Maskerade Day 4

Today's card was creating using a technique learned on day 4 of the fun Maskerade online card class.  We learned how to use freezer paper as our mask.

For my clean and simple card, I die cut the thanks out of freezer paper to use as a mask.  Then I applied three colors of distress ink as watercolor over the top.  Then I pulled off the mask and like magic the word was clean and white!   I will admit this card was my third attempt - the first two didn't turn out so great.  I don't think I applied the heat long enough for the paper to stick securely and the color seeped through.  But I did finally get it to work, and I like the result, so I think I will be trying it again!!

Maskerade Day 3

Today's card features a new technique from the MASKerade online class.  We learned how to use liquid masking to cover our image and create a background around it.  There are lots of different mediums you can use for this technique, but I used rubber cement.

I stamped my image first, then covered it with rubber cement.  After it had dried, I was able to create the pretty watercolor wash over the whole panel, without worrying about the flower getting color on it.  There were a few spots where I didn't have a thick enough coat of rubber cement, and some color seeped through, but I was able to scratch it away with a craft knife, and no one can tell!!  I used distress ink in fired brick, seedless preserves and worn lipstick.  The PTI sentiment was heat embossing in white after the panel had dried.

I was really happy with the way this turned out, and think I will be using this technique again!

I am entering this into Darlene's challenge over at Live Love Cards, where the technique is watercolor!

MASKerade Day 2

Another fun day over at Online Card Classes learning more about masking.

Today I used Jennifer's idea of filling in a big masked space with little images to define the shape.  I used a Sizzix die of a flower and some leaves.  Then I filled in the flower with random little flower images that are included in a lot of the clear sets.  The colors are all HA shadow inks - pale tomato, tide pool and butter bar.  I thought it would be fun to have the flower shape filled with flowers and the leaf shapes filled with leaves!  The leaf color is SU garden green.  The center of the flower was stamped with a SU stamp from an older ornament set.  It was the only circle shaped stamp I could find that would fit in the middle.

I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, and it was fun to make!!  One more thank you card done!  Thanks for checking in again today!

Online Card Classes - Maskerade Day 1

Hello!
I am taking another class from the great folks at Online Card Classes - MASKerade!  This fun class started today, and we learned how to use a mask to create a cute little scene, and also how to use both the positive and the negative of your mask.  Which is what I did for my card.  I CASE'd Debby Hughes card today, hers was so pretty.  And with her wonderful instructions, it was pretty easy to make this card.  I think it has a lot of impact for being essentially a one layer card.

This is the first of many thank you cards I need to make.  I am sending them out to the parents who helped me with a program at my son's school.  I hope to get a bunch of them made this week in class!

There is still time to sign up for the class if you haven't already!  You get lifetime access to the materials - such a great benefit of these classes.

Thanks for checking in!

Wedding Owls

Hello!

Today I am sharing a cute card I made for a couple who is tying the knot this weekend.  I wasn't quite sure what kind of card I wanted to make, so I browsed Pintrest looking for ideas.  The two types of cards that caught my eye the most were those with a wedding cake and those with a cute bride and groom.   So I combined the two and made a wedding cake topper out of the owl punch from SU.  I don't think these owls will ever get old - they are just so cute!

The bride's dress was made with silver glitter paper and I added some rhinestones to her head for a tiara.  The groom's tux was made with a white and a black 'owl belly', with the black one folded over for the lapels.  The cake was dry embossed with a swirly embossing folder and I added some little flowers tinged with pink and with pearls in the middle.  I think it turned out super cute and I hope the real bride and groom like it as well.

It might not be quite CAS enough, but I am entering it into CASology's current challenge where the cue card is Wedding.

Hope you are all enjoying a nice Memorial Day weekend

The Card Concept

Hello,
Today I am sharing a card made for the card concept challenge.  Their inspiration photo was very pretty.

Here's my take:

I would consider my card clean and simple.  I used PTI scribble circles and some woodgrain patterned paper from my stash.  The sentiment is Hero Arts, I added it on velum to mimic the softness of the tulle in the photo.  I mounted it on a SU Early Espresso card base.

Watercolor Hedgehugs!

Hello blogger friends,

I have a cute Lawn Fawn card to share today that uses the adorable Hedgehogs from the Sending Hedgehugs set.   I made this card as a get well card for my brother in law who just had surgery.  I hope it makes him smile!

I used my distress inks to watercolor the little hedgehogs.  I first stamped them in Vintage Photo ink and then used a waterbrush to pull the color into the image.  I added some wild honey marker to the bodies, and used the same technique to pull that color in.  After it was dry, I went back and used the vintage photo marker to add some details that softened too much with the water.  I outlined the bodies and darkened the eyes.  I added a wash of blue for the sky and some green for the grass.

I am entering this into Darlene's challenge over at Live Love Cards, where the theme is watercolor.

Hope you are having a great day!

Teacher Appreciation Day!

Hello!
Did you know that today is Teacher Appreciation Day?  A great to day to thank your teacher for supporting you and helping you grow!  I wanted to show my kid's teachers how much they mean to us, so I created these cute little pencil bouquets!

I started off by wrapping a standard pencil in PTI's new Pencil Papers.  These fun printed papers are self adhesive, and sized to fit the pencil perfectly!  Then I cut some of PTI's felt in Orange Zest, Hibiscus Burst and Aqua Mist with the new Pencil Bloom dies and added them to the top of the pencils.   The super cute milk bottles are from Michaels and I thought a sweet handwritten note on a chalkboard tag would be a great finishing touch!

How are you going to thank a teacher today?
